Reform of NC's Unemployment Insurance System

November 01, 2012
At its meeting on September 4, 2012, the Board of Directors of the Thomasville Area Chamber voted unanimously to join with the NC Chamber and support restoring integrity to the state’s Unemployment System.

North Carolina’s Unemployment Insurance situation faces crises.  Owing nearly $3 billion to the federal government, NC has the 4th highest unemployment insurance debt in the nation.  Unemployment Insurance is solely funded by employers.  The debt is triggering mandatory tax increases on NC businesses that threaten economic stability.

Unemployment Insurance Coalition recommendations focus on trust fund solvency, improvement of program integrity, unemployment to reemployment and affordability solutions.
